Barsana — The Birthplace of Shrimati Radha Rani
Barsana (also spelled Barsane) is a small hilltop town 25 km from Govardhan and 48 km from Vrindavan, located in the heart of Braj Bhumi. It is the birthplace of Shrimati Radha Rani — the divine consort of Lord Krishna. The entire town is considered a sacred tirtha, and devotees believe that even the dust of Barsana is blessed.
The Shri Radha Rani Mandir (also called Ladli Ji Temple) sits atop the Barsana hill (250 steps). The climb offers a panoramic view of the entire Braj region. The temple is one of the most elaborately decorated in all of Braj, with vibrant paintings of Radha's leelas on every wall. Barsana is also famous worldwide for the unique Lathmar Holi — celebrated days before the main Holi festival.
